Local Agency Formation Commissions (LAFCOs)

Included in Kronick’s municipal law practice is our attorneys’ expertise in both Local Agency Formation Commissions, also known as LAFCOs, and LAFCO-related matters affecting various public agencies. From water rights and land use to litigation and arbitration, our team provides general and special counsel LAFCO-related support across the state.

Unique to the State of California, LAFCOs are legislature-designed, independent regulatory commissions that define and control municipal boundaries and possess some regulatory and planning powers to curb urban sprawl and support orderly government functioning. We counsel both LAFCOs and cities, counties, and public agencies on LAFCO-related matters, including continuously changing local laws and regulations.
