Kronick Moskovitz Tiedemann & Girard (KMTG) has a lot to celebrate in 2009. The firm has been observing its 50th anniversary throughout the year, and on September 18th, co-founder Stanley W. Kronick celebrates his 90th birthday.
Having worked with Stanley since 1961, KMTG water law attorney Edward J. Tiedemann commented on this significant birthday, stating, “Stan has been a great mentor for me for over 50 years, and his keen interest in California water matters is still as strong as ever.”
Stanley was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on September 18, 1919. As a college student, he joined the Marine Corps to serve his country during World War II, and went on to become a highly decorated Marine Corps Aviator. After the war, he married his wife, Shirley, and in 1947, received a Bachelor of Law degree from Colombia Law School.
Stanley moved to California and became an active participant in the post war development of California water resources at the Regional Counsels Office of the Bureau of Reclamation. While at the Bureau, Stanley met friend and future KMTG co-founder Adolph Moskovitz when they shared an office as staff attorneys in 1950. During this time, Stanley and Adolph formulated a water allocation plan that reversed California’s water policy and became the basis for water and hydroelectric projects implemented by Governor Edmund G. Brown.
In January of 1959, Stanley and Adolph co-founded the law firm known today as Kronick Moskovitz Tiedemann and Girard. Stanley’s fundamental mission of the firm was to provide both high quality and timely legal services, and maintain close client communication to solve problems and satisfy client needs. Stanley’s vision of a diversified regional law practice that is dedicated to helping clients succeed continues to be the focus and foundation of KMTG today. Stanley retired from the firm after over 35 years of service in 1994, and continues to visit his office to share his valuable background and expertise.
