Sixty and Going Strong, Kronick Celebrates Its 60th Anniversary

Kronick was established back in 1959 by two motivated attorneys with a passion for water resource law. Today, Kronick Moskovitz Tiedemann & Girard is a full service law firm with 40 attorneys serving a growing roster of diverse public and private clients throughout California. This year Kronick will officially reach another notable milestone: its 60-year anniversary. Such longevity speaks well of the simple proposition that a firm should succeed by ensuring it always has loyal clients, great attorneys, a dedicated staff and strong community involvement.

It Began With a Coin Flip

Would it be “Moskovitz Kronick” or “Kronick Moskovitz”? The story goes that Stanley Kronick actually lost the coin toss, but Adolph Moskovitz renegotiated the settlement, opting for a larger office instead. And so it was that these two men — who’d met ten years earlier as staff attorneys for the regional Bureau of Reclamation, and who had formulated a water allocation plan that eventually launched many state water and hydroelectric projects — would go on to build a lasting culture of accomplishment and commitment to superb client representation.

A Growing Firm

The initial focus on water law served the firm’s clients well. By 1983, with 25 years under its belt, Kronick won a unanimous U.S. Supreme Court decision in Nevada vs. U.S. When landowners in the Truckee-Carson Irrigation District (TCID) needed assistance, Kronick represented TCID in their fight for fair allocation of water rights within the district. A few years later, the firm added public finance. Today, Kronick attorneys also practice in the areas of business, banking, construction, employment and labor, energy, environmental, health care, insurance coverage, litigation, municipal and public agency, nonprofit organization, real estate, land use, and redevelopment and housing.

Pride in Our People

Placer County Water Agency is Kronick Moskovitz’s oldest client, beginning while Edward Tiedemann was working there. Tiedemann then became the firm’s third named partner in 1962. In 1967, Frederick Girard joined the firm and ultimately became the fourth name. In the ensuing years, many exceptional attorneys and superb judges have served as strong client advocates at Kronick, and added to the firm’s reputation. In 2008, Edward J. Tiedemann was named recipient of the Distinguished Service Award of the Sacramento Regional Water Authority.

Far-Reaching Influence

Today, the firm plays an integral role in many of the significant matters shaping and defining California’s legal landscape. We’ve always taken pride in providing exceptional legal representation to every client, and we remain committed to this ideal. And if history is any indication, Kronick will continue to bring great value to its clients over the next 60 years.
